Elena's Diary presents Hedi Slimane's other love: photography. The Saint Laurent designer is also gearing up for Sonic, his latest photo book, with an accompanying exhibition at the Fondation Pierre Bergé-Yves Saint Laurent in Paris.
Over the past 15 years, Slimane has turned his restless lens on musical iconoclasts like Lou Reed and Amy Winehouse while throwing himself camera-first into burgeoning music scenes all over the world. Sonic is a blend of the two, with more formal studio portraits sitting alongside a video installation that pays homage to the raw energy of indie rock in 00s London and its spiritual descendent, the DIY music scene in Los Angeles.
It is Slimane's most extensive show since his 2011's California Song at the MOCA in Los Angeles – and it's also the first time a Saint Laurent designer has ever exhibited at the Fondation. "I am very attached to l'Avenue Marceau (home of the Fondation): it has always been a comforting place for me," Slimane told the Financial Times. "This is somehow where I started, so this is very moving for me."
There are some familiar faces from Slimane's days as Dior Homme's skinny-suited creative director – Pete Doherty, for one – while current Saint Laurent muses like Sky Ferreira feature heavily too.
Hedi Slimane's 'Sonic" exhibiotion is on until January 11th 2015
